This article describes how to remove a NIC from a Cloud Server in a an MCP 2.0 Data Center location.

  1. Only the Primary Administrator or a Sub-Admin with the Server role can remove a NIC from a Cloud Server
  2. The Cloud Server must be in a stopped state. 
  3. You can not remove the Primary NIC. 
  4. You can not remove the NIC from a Cloud Server if the Cloud Server is the Source Server in a Consistency Group. See What happens Happens to a Source Server when it is added to a Consistency Group?
  5. This functionality is only available in MCP 2.0 Data Center locations. 
  6. You cannot remove a NIC From a Cloud Server if the Cloud Server Snapshot Feature is enabled. See How to Disable Cloud Server Snapshots on a Server

Content / Solution:

  1. From the Home page, select the Data Center where the Cloud Server from which you want to remove a NIC is located:


  2. The Data Center dashboard will be displayed. Select the Network Domain where the Cloud Server from which you want to remove the NIC is located:


  3. The Network Domain dashboard will be displayed. Select the Server from which you want to remove a NIC:


  4. The Server dashboard will be displayed. Click on the Networking tab. Locate the NIC (VLAN) you want to remove from the Cloud Server. Click on the Manage gear next to the VLAN and select Remove NIC from the drop-down menu:

    Note: The Cloud Server must be in a stopped state to remove a NIC. If the Server is running, the Remove NIC button will be unavailable and the system will display an error message:
    Note: The Primary NIC CAN NOT be removed:

     

  5. The system will display the Remove NIC / Remove Server from VLAN dialog. Click Confirm:


  6. The system will display a message indicating that the operation is in progress:


  7. The system will display the progress of the operation in the Status section of the Server dashboard:


  8. Once complete, the system will display a success message:


  9. The NIC (VLAN) will be removed from the Cloud Server:

Warning
titleImportant Note

If the NIC that is being removed from a Cloud Server is the last object which is using an IP Address that is exclusively reserved, the IP Address will be automatically unreserved upon successful removal of the NIC from the Cloud Server.
