This article explains how to initiate a failover for a DRS Consistency Group. |
Prerequisites:
- Only the Primary Administrator or a user with the DRS role can initiate the failover of a Consistency Group.
- For instructions on how to add Roles to a Sub-Administrator, see How to Manage the Primary Administrator User and other Sub-Administrators as the Primary Administrator
- The Consistency Group must be in a Preview state. See How to Start a DRS Preview for a Consistency Group
- The Consistency Group must not already be in Failover mode.
- The Secondary Location is not in Hypervisor maintenance.
- The Secondary Location is not in DRS maintenance.
Content / Solution:
Click on the DRS for Cloud menu button and then select DRS Consistency Groups to navigate to the DRS Consistency Groups pageGroups page:
The DRS Consistency Groups dashboard will be displayed:
Locate the desired Consistency Group that is currently in Preview mode. Click on the Manage gear and then select Initiate Failover from the drop-down menu:
The Initiate Failover dialog will be displayed. Review the warning and then click Confirm:
Important Note: Please review the consequences of initiating a failover in the Introduction to DRS for Cloud article before clicking confirm!
The system will display a message indicating that the failover has begun and that the operation is in progress:
The Initiate Failover dialog Failover dialog will close and the status will be updated in the DRS Consistency Groups grid:
The system will display a success message:
The DRS Consistency Groups grid will be refreshed to show the deletion of the Consistency Group following the completion of the failover process:
Important Notes:
- The original Source Server may now be powered off.
- The original Source Server will now be flagged as DRS Eligible.
- The original Target Server will now be powered on.
- The original Target Server will now be flagged as DRS Ineligible.
